I first began writing my novel in the middle of my eighth-grade social studies class. I still remember the day: my classmates were working quietly on an assignment I decided to pull out my cell phone and open up the Notes application. I began with the first four names of my characters: Noah, Samantha, James, and Chelsea. Following those four names, I concluded the sentence and sent a message to my friend Jamey, the person I had been telling the story of a dream prince to initially.
The novel continued with ease because I had already told the entire story to Jamey prior to beginning it. Plus I always had her reading the novel and helping me with designs. I had no idea that in social studies class, I would begin a tale that would be completed as a two hundred page manuscript.
I completed part one of the novel on April 16th, 2016, and finished the entire book on August 28th, 2016. But on completion, I had no idea that I would actually publish it. Toward the end of the novel, I messaged Jamey and wrote, “Why don’t we try to publish this?”
She excitedly agreed, which gave me the courage to pursue the dream of turning the manuscript into a bound novel.
Writing a novel takes a lot of motivation. For Her Prince of Dreams, I had a lot of motivation from my best friend Jamie open the novel is dedicated to. The beginning of my novel was terrible and it started out with the worst sentence ever but that’s all I need it to skyrocket into a huge plot line.
All of the characters in my novel are based on people I have known in my real life little do they know. In fact, most of my novel was just the interaction of me and my friends in a giant forest. I had no idea of the complexities it would bring.
Experiences in the novel are based on situations I have been in. For example, the complex between many of the characters are actually things that I have been through and so I felt like I could help other teenagers relate. I realized that a lot of the messages in the novel could be something other people could relate to and that’s what is inspiring to me.
Now it’s a published book.
